Mandarin Course - General Chinese (HSK I & II & III)





  • Beginners I:
    Within a short time of starting this course you will have learned 50 basic Chinese words. You will be able to conduct simple conversations in Chinese such as introducing, likes and dislikes etc. You will be able to construct simple sentences. The focus is on the basics of phonetic learning.

  • Beginners II:
    You will learn another 200 words. You will be able to express your feelings and views. You will master everyday things like ordering food, buying tickets, using the telephone - but with more words. You become familiar with colloquial language and vocabulary. You will learn to integrate these new words to generate more flexibility in conversation.

  • Intermediate I:
    By now you are relatively familiar with more complex sentence structure. Now you learn an additional 200 words and start to use more complex sentence structures like “suiran…danshi”, “budan…erqie…”. You can then discuss various topics such as family, personal interests, hobbies, travel etc and become comfortable with ever-increasing levels of complexity.

    You will be able to talk about feelings, take part in meetings, obtain information, return goods to shops, make complaints etc. Using your multilayered syntax you can express most of your ideas, even if you are still translating these directly from your native language into Chinese.

  • Intermediate II:
    You learn to discuss much more complex situations and to ask the opinions of others.
    You will become much more fluent.
    In addition you will begin writing, so that soon you will be able to write short texts, notes, and letters on general themes.

    By now you can express your ideas and concepts much better using simple and also more complex sentence structures and are becoming more and more familiar with Chinese grammar. You will learn Chinese idioms and the various possible ways of exchanging ideas. You begin to think in Chinese more when speaking and will be less reliant on your translation.

  • Advanced I:
    At this level you learn an additional 200 words and new grammatical concepts. You can listen well and can write long paragraphs and newsworthy articles or discuss specific topics, thereby continually increasing your fluency.

  • Advanced II:
    You learn to write articles with a particular style. You learn around 200 new words at this level. In addition you master the relevant usage of the language; the ability to make jumps when reading and listening while still understanding the content. You learn to filter the relevant information out of a conversation or text. Your language competence develops to the point where you can gradually speak more confidently on social and cultural topics.

    You will further develop your style in writing Chinese articles, utilising all types of reading, writing, listening and speaking to do so. In addition to intensive reading and listening you will further develop new skills such as skipping when reading and listening while still fully understanding text. You will learn to speak fluently and converse easily on complex cultural and social topics.
